When access to the inside of an enclosure (like your shrink-wrapped boat) or through a plastic wall is necessary, our zipper access doors are a perfect solution. They work well for both construction and temporary access needs. Not only do they provide access to tight spaces, they also allow for ventilation and are reusable.
We're breaking down the step-by-step process of how to install a zipper access door today. Before you start, you'll want to gather your supplies.
You'll need a zipper access door, heat shrink tape, and a knife. For ease, we've bundled our zipper access doors with our heat shrink tape into our Zipper Access Door Kit.
Keep in mind that the opening you'll create with the zipper access door is about a foot less space (in each direction) of the door size you select. Smaller hatches which provide ventilation and access through the wrap work in tight spaces, but in general, the bigger the door, the easier it is to get in and out of your wrap. If our stock-sized doors aren't what you're looking for, take a look at our Custom Sized Zipper Doors and let us know if we can get you a quote on the size that will best suit your project.
Now, let's get into the how to install a Zipper Access Door:
- Tape the access door to your shrink-wrapped structure.
- Now, zip
open the door and roll the door section up, taping it to secure it and move it out of the way. - Now, using your shrink wrap knife, cut an opening in the shrink wrap, underneath the zipper door.
Once your opening is cut, you're all set! We also have a video breaking down the step by step, to make this process even easier:
