Shrink Shield® – by the Roll or Pallet

Shrink Shield® is a 7 mil white triple-layer shrink wrap fabric for fabricating custom covers. It has three layers: a shrink wrap exterior, an adhesive layer, and a nonwoven padding and wicking layer. It is a textile, not a wrap. You sew it into a cover built to the object's specifications, then apply heat to draw it taut. The padding and wicking layer sits against the surface.

Designing a Cover with Shrink Wrap Fabric

Sew to specification. Design each cover to the object and the application.
Scale the cover 3–7% larger than the object. Use the smallest scale that still lets you install it without damaging the cover. Larger or more complex objects may need the upper end of the range.
Shrink only as much as you need. Shrink wrap fabric can shrink up to 12%. Shrink just enough to get a taut surface. That's why we recommend minimal scaling.

Securing the Bottom Edge

As it shrinks, the cover tends to pull up and away from the open side, usually the bottom, which creates a cresting effect. A good attachment design keeps this to a minimum:

Hem in a perimeter strap rated for the cover's size. It can be a rope or strap pulled and fastened by hand, a plastic strap with a fastener, or, for heavy-duty covers, a ratchet of the right size.
Add straps on the underside of the object, spaced no more than 8' apart.

Together, the perimeter strap and underside straps give a fairly uniform bottom edge.

Choosing a Shrink Wrap Fabric Roll

Pick the width that fits your largest panel and the length that fits your production run. The 40", 60" and 80" widths each come in two lengths, 450' and 900'. The 123" width comes in 1,500'. The range lets a designer working at any scale size the roll to the cover design, from one-off covers to production runs.
